Early life
Jordan Ross Belfort was born to Jewish parents Max Belfort (father) and Leah Belfort (mother). He was born on July 9, 1962, in the Bronx, New York City.
His parents were accountants, and they gave him a middle-class education. He spent his formative years in Bay Side, Queens. He has an older brother, Robert Belfort.
As high school students, Jordan Belfort and his friends sold shaved ice to regular visitors to a local beach. They made $20,000 in profit from the venture.

Jordan Belfort attended top elementary and high schools in New York.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from American University. He then enrolled in the undergraduate program at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. However, he soon dropped out.
Career
Jordan Belfort’s business career began as a door-to-door butcher and seafood salesman. He worked in Long Island, New York, selling 5,000 pounds of fish and meat a week. But the business didn’t go well, and he filed for bankruptcy. He then got a job as an apprentice stockbroker at LF Rothschild.
He then founded Stratton Oakmont, a franchise of Stratton Securities. Years later, he bought out the founder of Stratton Securities and became the new owner of the company.
Jordan Belfort ran Stratton Oakmont as a penny stock boiler room, scamming investors with a “pump and dump” style of selling stocks. He grew the business to the point where it employed over 1,000 stockbrokers. In addition, the firm handled $1 billion in stock issues. Stratton Oakmont is also credited with orchestrating Steve Madden’s initial public offering.
From 1989 onwards, the firm was supervised by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and monitored by national law enforcement agencies. In 1996, the NASD expelled Stratton Oakmont, forcing the firm to close. Jordan Belfort was convicted of securities fraud and money laundering three years later in 1999.
After serving 22 months of a four-year sentence at Taft State Prison, he was released from prison. He was released early as part of a plea deal with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Upon his return to society, he decided to start a creative career and began working as a motivational speaker and writer. He has been invited to speak at several events across the country. His company, Global Motivation Inc., handles Jordan Belfort’s speaking engagements.
Jordan Belfort is also a commercially successful author and has written and published two memoirs, The Wolf Of Wall Street and Catching The Wolf Of Wall Street. The books. The books have been translated into 18 languages and published in more than 40 countries. The books were adapted into a film, The Wolf Of Wall Street, released in 2013.

Jordan Belfort was married to his first wife, Denise Lombardo. The couple separated while Jordan Belfort was running Stratton. Their divorce was finalized in 1991.
He then married a British model, Nadine Caridi, in 1991. Their marriage produced two children: Chandler Belfort and Carter Belfort before they divorced in 2005.
Jordan Belfort was the last owner of the yacht, Nadine Caridi, named after his second wife. The yacht was originally built for Coco Chanel. In 1996, the yacht sank off the east coast of Sardinia.
