Early life and education
The Weeknd is a talented artist from Canada, born on February 16, 1990 in the vibrant city of Toronto, Ontario. Unfortunately, his parents, Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu, both immigrants from Ethiopia, decided to separate shortly after his birth.
As a result, he was raised by his mother and grandparents in the Scarborough area. Growing up in this diverse community, The Weeknd formed a close bond with his two younger siblings, Sam Tesfaye and Bella Tesfaye.
During his formative years in Scarborough, The Weeknd attended both West Hill College And Birchmount Park Academy.
Career
After joining Republic Records in 2012, The Weeknd’s debut studio album, Land of kisses (2013), achieved commercial success. However, his second album, The Beauty Behind the Madness (2015), which launched him to global stardom. The album spawned chart-topping singles such as Can’t feel my face, Got itAnd The Hillsand won him a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
The Weeknd’s third album, Star boy (2016), achieved significant commercial success and was honored with a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Furthermore, his fourth album, After many hours (2020), received widespread critical acclaim and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance for its featured track, Glare.
The Weeknd, a talented modern artist, has had great success. He has won four Grammy Awards, 20 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 Juno Awards. He has sold over 75 million records worldwide, proving his influence on a global scale.
