They ‘came to my rescue’

Liam Payne has expressed his regret over some past comments he made about his former One Direction bandmates a year before his death.

Back in 2022, Payne criticized Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson in an interview on the “Impaulsive” podcast.

However, a year later, he expressed regret for speaking negatively about his former co-star 1D.

In a YouTube video, Payne publicly apologized to Styles, Horan, Malik and Tomlinson, explaining that he was disappointed with his career by criticizing them. He also shared that he went into rehab and stayed there for three months.

“My frustration with my own career and where I was going, I was criticizing other people, which was wrong,” Payne said. “So obviously I want to apologize because that’s definitely not me.”

The “Strip That Down” singer made it clear that he still considers Malik, Styles, Tomlinson and Horan to be friends.

“When I needed them the most, they came to my rescue,” Payne said.

Payne revealed this just a year before he was found dead in Argentina on Wednesday.

Local police said the singer fell from a room on the third floor at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires.

TMZ, the news site, reported that Payne was acting erratically and had to be taken back to his room shortly before his death.

Payne went to Argentina earlier this month to reconnect with Horan, who had a show there on October 2.

Payne made headlines after he was seen at Horan’s concert and later posted a photo with his former bandmate on social media.

Styles, Horan, Malik and Tomlinson have yet to publicly address Payne’s death as of this writing, although the “Watermelon Sugar” singer’s mother did post about his death on Instagram.
