Early life and education
Thomas Mann was born on June 6, 1975. He was born and raised in the Free City of Lübeck, Germany.
Thomas Mann was the second son of Thomas Johann Heinrich Mann, a senator and grain merchant, and his mother, Julia da Silva Bruns, of German and Portuguese descent.
Thomas Mann’s father died in 1891. Due to his death and debts, the grain company owned by his father was liquidated; this forced Thomas Mann and his entire family to relocate from Lübeck to Munich.
Thomas Mann first studied science at the Lübeck Gymnasium, then entered the University of Munich and then the Technical University of Munich, majoring in history, economics, art history and literature.

Thomas Mann has opened up about his struggles with his sexuality. The legendary author revealed that his struggle with homosexuality was intense. His sexuality somehow came up in a book he wrote in 1912, Death in Venice.
One of his diaries also revealed some dirty secrets about the writer; according to the entries, Thomas Mann developed a sexual attraction to his 13-year-old grandson, Elsie.
