She has served as Social Justice Chair at Stellenbosch University since January 2018. Her tenure as the South African Public Protector lasted from 19 October 2009 to 14 October 2016.

Personal life
Thuli Madonsela, a famous South African lawyer and activist, faced adversity as a widow. She and her late husband, Khulekile Msimang, were blessed with two children, Wenzile Una and Mbusowabantu Fidel. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when her husband passed away when their children were young.
