Early Life & Education
Tisha Campbell was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 13, 1968. However, she grew up in Newark, New Jersey, where she attended Newark High School of the Arts and East Orange, Academy of Music Washington of New Jersey.
Mona (née Raye) Shockley (now Mona Washington Campbell), her mother, was a doctor, music agent, gospel singer and vocal instructor who raised her daughter.
Her father, Clifton Campbell, was a steel worker and a singer who now worked with poor youth on both the east and west coasts as a chess master.
Tisha Campbell’s parents encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. She has five siblings, including an older brother, a younger sister and three younger brothers. Her two siblings are Tiara Campbell and Jermaine Campbell.
Career
Tisha Campbell made her first television appearance when she was 6 years old in an episode of the PBS show The Big Blue Marble in 1974. She won many awards in talent competitions as a child.
She starred in children’s shows such as Kids Are People Too, Unicorn Tales (where she starred as Daisy Bunsen in the episode The Magnificent Major), and Captain Kangaroo.
Tisha Campbell co-starred with future co-star Martin Tichina Arnold in the musical film Little Shop of Horrors as Chiffon, a member of a girl group similar to The Supremes Greek Chorus when she was 17 years old.
After graduating from Newark High School for the Arts, Tisha Campbell moved to Hollywood, where she starred in the NBC musical comedy series Rags to Riches (1987–88). Since then, she has gone on to star in a number of popular films and television shows.
Personal life
Tisha Campbell married actor Duane Martin on August 17, 1996. Xen Martin and Ezekiel Czar Martin are the couple’s two sons (born August 8, 2001 and September 8, 2009).
After 21 years of marriage, Tisha Campbell filed for divorce in February 2018. Their divorce was finalized in December 2020.
