Ashlee Braxton has broken her silence on the verbal, physical and mental abuse she endured throughout her childhood.
Michael Braxton Jr.’s daughter Ashlee opened up about her painful upbringing in a clip obtained by ‘It’s OnSite’ where she revealed depressing instances of abuse and neglect .
The niece of beloved singers Toni Braxton and Tamar Braxton claims she faced extreme cases of family tragedy while growing up in the Braxton household. Although she revealed that her parents got married when she was young, things eventually took a turn for the worst according to her.
“When I was young, my parents got married, then my parents divorced and then my mother decided to marry us off to my father. She then removed her name from our birth certificate and decided to move on with her life. She already has [another] life and kids,” Ashlee, 32, told the podcast host.
“My parents were very abusive,” the 32-year-old continued. “My stepmother was also very abusive to my sisters and me… Physically, mentally, emotionally, everything. But, from those two people it was physically… and then she decided to do the same to my sisters.” But then there were times when my father was also physically abusive.”
“That’s the only memory I have with my parents,” the “Un-Break My Heart” star’s niece said in the interview clip.
Ashlee also said one of her famous aunts interrupted her. Apparently, the estrangement involved a man and inappropriate contact with Ashlee when she was a child.
She did not name which aunt cut her off, but detailed it was because the aunt thought Ashlee had “done something” to her partner when she was 16 years old. She also talked about her ordeal on TikToks.
“My aunt was there for me. She was so kind, so kind and said ‘I’m so sorry this happened to you’. She was so kind and I felt safe,” Ashlee recalled. “But then, as the years went by, that mindset and the assumption that I didn’t do anything because I was a kid was no longer that assumption.”
Fans in the comments section were upset with Ashlee’s childhood account, as one speculated that it was simply “attention seeking”, while others said they would pray for “her healing”.
“She feels neglected and wants attention. Why not talk to your family first. Looking for attention,” one person wrote in the comments section. “Pray for her healing. Family trauma is hard to resolve,” a second person consoled. “Oh my God…I heard dad took himself off the birth certificate but it was mom??? me [sic] shocked,” a third chimed in. “If she wasn’t Toni Braxton’s niece this interview wouldn’t even exist,” a fourth poked.
The detailed account comes years after hit reality series Braxton Family Values ended in December 2020 after nine years and seven seasons.
The series highlights the Braxton sisters Toni, Tamar, Traci, Towanda and Trina, along with their mother Evelyn. Ashlee’s father, Michael, also appeared in the fan-favorite We TV. They returned to the silver screen in August 2024 with another reality show The Braxtons.
