Early life
Anthony Frank Hawk was born on May 12, 1968 in San Diego, California to Nancy and Frank Peter Rupert Hawk. His three siblings are Pat, Lenore, and Steve. He spent most of his childhood in San Diego and his older brother introduced him to the world of skateboarding when he was 8 years old. Skateboarding was encouraged by his parents as it provided an outlet for his extreme passion.
Hawk was labeled “hyperactive” as a child, and his mother described him as “quite hard on himself.” Tony was discovered to be “naturally gifted” with an IQ of 144 and was placed in advanced classes.
