Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson (born November 19, 1989), better known by his stage name Tyga, is an American rapper and songwriter who rose to fame through a series of independent releases before signing a record deal in 2008 with major labels Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records.

Early life and education
Born on the streets of Compton, California, Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, who goes by the stage name Tyga, was born on November 19, 1989 to Jamaican and Vietnamese parents. His mother, Pasionaye Nguyen, is of Vietnamese descent, while his father is of Jamaican descent.
Tyga spent most of his growing up years in Compton before moving to the neighboring city of Gardena at age 12. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by the likes of Fabolous, Lil Wayne, Cameron and Eminem, and he often spoke about his humble beginnings in a low-income family.
However, his background was called into question in 2012 when a leaked video showed his parents driving around in a Range Rover, leading some to speculate about what his upbringing was really like.
Despite the controversy, Tyga graduated from Gardena High School and has since become a successful rapper and songwriter, signing a record deal in 2008 with Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records.

Tyga and Blac Chyna first met at a star-studded after-party for Chris Brown’s FAME Tour in Miami on October 5, 2011. It was love at first sight, and a few weeks later, on November 9, 2011, the couple announced their relationship to the world.
By March of the following year, their romance had blossomed, and they appeared together on the cover of Urban Ink magazine. In October 2012, Blac Chyna gave birth to their son, King Cairo Stevenson, and Tyga celebrated by purchasing a $6.5 million luxury home in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas.

Tyga released a number of demos and mixtapes early in his career. In 2007, his debut mixtape, Young On Probation, caught the attention of Travie McCoy, lead singer of the California rap band Gym Class Heroes. Impressed with the young musician’s potential, Travie McCoy offered him a record deal with DCD2 Records (then known as Decaydence Records).
Around the same time, Tyga teamed up with West Coast rapper Schoolboy Q to form the record label GED Inc. (Grinding every day, Getting every dollar, or Getting educated every day). He also has a GED Inc tattoo above his right eyebrow.
On June 10, 2008, Tyga released his debut album as a solo artist, No Introduction, on Decaydance Records. The single “Coconut Juice”, a collaboration with Travie McCoy, was released prior to the album. One of the songs from the album, “Diamond Life”, was used in the video games Need for Speed: Undercover and Madden NFL 2009, as well as the 2009 film Fighting.
Tyga signed a record deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment (an offshoot of Cash Money Records) in late 2008. He and Lil Wayne first crossed paths at the 2008 Video Music Awards, when he performed a remix of Fall Out Boy’s “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race.”
After signing with the record label, Tyga appeared on Young Money’s single Bedrock and released a mixtape, Fan of a Fan, with Chris Brown, DJ Ill Will, and DJ Rockstar. The mixtape features collaborations with other artists, including Bow Wow, Lil Wayne, and Kevin McCall. Music videos for four of the tracks have been released: “Holla at Me,” “G Shit,” “No Bullshit,” and “Deuces.”
The single Deuces was the first song released from the mixtape, peaking at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 26, 2010, and peaking at number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
At the 53rd Grammy Awards, the song Deuces was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Chris Brown’s fourth studio album, FAME, included this song and others. In an interview with MTV, Tyga revealed that the mixtape was made in just seven days.
