The moments leading up to Liam Payne’s death earlier this month have been revealed through unreleased footage of the night of his fatal fall.
The 31-year-old former One Direction singer apparently fainted and fell from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires before falling to the ground.
According to South American journalist Paula Varela from Buenos Aires, the video of Payne fainting and then tripping was recorded by CCTV.
In an interview with local media, Varela said: “From the video, it is clear that he did not intentionally jump.” She also made the point that he passed out next to his bed. He would have fallen there safely instead of from the balcony
An investigation into Payne’s death has drawn attention to the moments leading up to his death.
Varela told of a hotel employee who became friendly with Payne and allegedly challenged the hotel manager and brought items into his room.
“Authorities are currently looking into this link as part of the investigation,” she said.
Paramedics tried to save Payne just minutes after the fall but confirmed that the singer had suffered unsurvivable injuries.
Arriving at the scene, the head of the state’s emergency medical system, Alberto Crescenti, said some of their injuries were so serious that nothing could be done.
A toxicology report conducted before the autopsy found that Payne may have been in a “semi- or completely unconscious” state during some period of drug-induced unconsciousness when he fell.
When they found his body, it was in a position that suggested he was unprepared for impact, confirming his condition.
Fans and friends have flooded around the world to remember Payne following his unexpected death.
Payne also shared several messages on social media in his memory, including one from Nicole Scherzinger, who mentored Payne on “The X Factor,” saying she had spoken to Minton not long ago when he passed away.
While investigations are ongoing, millions of people around the world are grieving the loss of one of the artists. Details of his death are still being investigated as people try to reconstruct what happened that night.
