Virginia McCaskey was born in Chicago in 1923 into a royal family. Her father, George Halas, was the owner of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He is survived by his brother, George Halas Jr., who died of a heart attack in 1979.
Virginia McCaskey’s husband’s name was Ed McCaskey, who died in 2003. The couple had two sons: George McCaskey and Michael McCaskey. Halas has grandchildren, although their names have not been released.
Halas’s husband was the Bears’ first chairman and co-chairman. McCaskey, however, never formally received an ownership stake. He remained co-owner with his wife, Virginia McCaskey, until his death in 2003.
