Early life and education
Wasiu Alabi Pasuma Odetola was born on November 27, 1967 in Mushin, Lagos State and grew up in Kwara State in western Nigeria. His father’s name is Charles Olumo, a Nigerian actor and film producer. He was born on November 27, 1967 and is currently 56 years old.
In 1973, he enrolled in the Muslim Mission Primary School and six years later, he moved to the Nigeria Model High School to continue his studies. Wasiu Arabi Pasuma described his early life as a miserable living hell. He sometimes ate only one meal a day. This way he would not go to bed hungry. Then his mother would make him eat at night.
When he was nine years old, his parents divorced. Since then, his mother raised him alone. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s father was well-educated and he encouraged him to pursue a career in medicine. He wanted a good life for his child and also knew that being a Fuji musician would not bring in a lot of money. His decision to become a Fuji musician was also opposed by his mother.
But when his mother understood that he had made his decision, she started to support him. Because she wanted to be happy for her son, his mother wanted him to succeed. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma dreamed of success. Before he made Mushin famous, the town was considered a town full of pranksters.
Since he couldn’t start his career anywhere else, he decided to leave and make a change.
Profession
The musician began singing when he was a senior in high school. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and a few of his buddies would sneak away and sing while their friends played sports. He began composing music in 1984.
The young musician drew inspiration from K1 De Ultimate, who released the critically acclaimed album Talazo 84. He began performing at the age of 17, but his debut album was not completed until 1993. He began working at Eru Owa Records.
Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s debut album, Recognition, was recorded in this manner. Eru Owa Records named the album Recognition to draw attention to this emerging Fuji performer. After completing secondary school, the musician underwent a dramatic transformation. After the release of his debut album, his fame spread far and wide in and around Takeshima.
His second album, The Choice, was recorded the year after the release of his first album. The artist adopted this name after he realized that while many Fuji musicians performed on the streets of Musin, only he was chosen to perform there and became famous throughout Nigeria.
The following year, he released a famous album called Orobokibo. This album won him the title of Best Fuji Artist at the FMA Awards. Before releasing this album, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma was a typical Mushin-style Fuji musician. At that time, he was just playing music and didn’t know what his future would be like, but he always had the ambition to become famous.
The name of the third album is a slang term, called “Orobokibo”, which was coined by one of his backup singers during practice. When the musician asked for the definition of the term, the man said it was just a slang term he heard somewhere. The slang term “Orobo” originally meant “fat woman”.
With this album, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma held his first concert in Benson in 1996. He started his journey in this way. He started performing in Lekki Sunplash in 1997. He performed before big stars like Raskimono, Femi Kuti and Orits Williki took the stage. He had a little time to finish his work and leave. The public was waiting for the main performers and did not want to listen to any new stars.
A year later, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s life has changed drastically and he has become a well-known name in the music industry. In 2015, he won the Nigeria Entertainment Awards for Best Indigenous Artist of the Year, surpassing performers like Olamide, Phyno and Flavour.
The musician has no idea how he will beat these heavyweights in the music industry. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma is nominated for the first time while the young and beautiful K1 De Ultimate is ruling the music industry. In 2016, he was nominated for the Best Non-Islamic Artist for Islamic Album.
