Who is Alex Scott?
Alexandra Virina Scott MBE (born 14 October 1984) is an outstanding British sports presenter, commentator and former professional footballer. Throughout her career, she has primarily played as a right-back for Arsenal in the FA Cup. She made 140 appearances for England and was honored to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Alex Scott’s club career saw her play numerous spells at Arsenal, including a season with Birmingham City in 2004-05 and a spell with Boston in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) United States Three years with the Boston Breakers. One of the highlights of her career was scoring the winning goal for Arsenal in the 2007 UEFA Women’s Cup final.

However, she faced challenges growing up, revealing in her autobiography published in 2022 that she suffered domestic abuse from her father during childhood. In a show of strength and solidarity, she pledged that all proceeds from her book will go toward helping women who have suffered similar forms of abuse.

She shared that to this day, she struggles to hug her mother, while she has never been able to hug her brother because of the environment they grew up in. The trauma and fear they experienced as children still affects their ability to express feelings.
However, Alex found solace in football, which became her safe haven amid family turmoil. She describes the football field as a place where she feels happy, free and belonging. In contrast, her home environment was restrictive and controlling. Although she wanted to love her father and cherish the father-daughter relationship, she often witnessed her father’s dark side while growing up.

Alcohol fueled his father’s anger, and Alex vividly recalls how his personality would change under its influence. His anger was directed at the entire family, but her mother often bore the brunt. From an early age, she felt the tension in her family and understood the consequences of deviance.
Alex hopes to honor her mother’s incredible strength and resilience through her memoir and her appearance on the show. She challenged the perception that survivors of domestic violence and abuse are cowards, highlighting her admiration for her mother’s courage in protecting her and her brother.
