Tekken 8 gameplay
Directed by Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken 8 focuses on aggressive gameplay. Players are rewarded for being proactive rather than defensive. A new feature called the “Heat” system has been introduced, which provides chip damage, extra moves, and character-changing abilities such as heavy guard breaches. Thermal status timer stops during active movement and prevents certain attacks from causing chip damage, promoting health bar regeneration through offensive play.

The returning rage system gets a makeover with Thermal Crush. The deprecated “Screw” attribute was replaced by “Tornado”, expanding the juggling mix. Tekken 8 aims for a cinematic feel, including stage destruction, new character models and the power of Unreal Engine 5. Online modes include “Arcade Quest,” which offers avatar customization via “Fight Money.”

Arika is responsible for ongoing development, including rollback netcode following the 2022 Tekken World Cup finals. Bandai Namco conducted closed network testing in July and October 2023 to fine-tune aspects such as balance and matching. The demo, released in December 2023, offers a taste of the game, including Story Mode, Arcade Missions, Super Ghost Battle, Versus Mode, and Gallery.
