Meet Ellery Brown, Ketanji Brown Jackson Mom
In February 2022, through Local 10Ellery Brown, mother of Ketanji Brown Jackson, thanked everyone for supporting her daughter’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Her face was radiant with the pride of a proud father. “So proud of Ketanji,” said her mother, who is at home in Southwest Miami-Dade. “Public education plays such a big role, which we feel is because she went to public school.”
After the nomination, Ellery Brown spoke with CBS Miami Local“She is a wonderful person and a great candidate for this position,” she told the news agency. “This is what she wanted and it will be good for the court,” Ellery added.
Like most of the country, Ellery and her husband, Johnny, didn’t know about their daughter’s nomination until Biden stepped up to the podium in the White House’s Cross Hall to make the announcement. Her husband spoke to News@TheU and said, “Ketanji was told not to tell anyone, so she followed the rules. But of course, we suspected that all along.”
“We told her she did it, that we loved her,” Johnny added.
Ellery Brown Husband And Children
Ellery Brown has been married to her husband Johnny Brown for over 54 years. She and her husband both started their careers as teachers and he went on to become an attorney, which inspired Ketanji to pursue the same career, not knowing that she would one day be nominated to the Supreme Court as the first black woman.
Ellery and Johnny have two children, whom they raised in Miami. Their son, Ketajh Brown, is nine years younger than his Supreme Court nominee daughter. He is currently 43 years old (as of March 2022). He served in the Army starting in September 2006 and was an infantryman/infantry officer until September 2013.
During his service in the United States Army, Ketajh participated in two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and Operation Iraqi Freedom in northern Iraq.
Meanwhile, he also served as a federal public defender as an investigator from November 2008 to September 2013.
In June 2016, Ketajh secured his JD and joined the United States Court of Appeals as a Judicial Staff Attorney, where he worked full-time but only for seven months. From January 2018 to September 2021, he worked for Husch Blackwell as a commercial litigation associate.
Since November 2021, Ketajh has been working with K&L Gates as a Commercial Litigation Attorney.
Ketajh Brown attended the University of Wisconsin School of Law and earned his Juris Doctor, graduating in 2016. He earned his BA in History from Howard University.
He currently lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In 1993, she became principal of New World School of the Arts, a public high school that offers an intensive program. The advisory board advised the school’s faculty leaders on issues affecting the school’s ability to fulfill its core mission of providing a seamless college-preparatory fine arts curriculum for students in grades 6 through 12, preparing them for college and careers in the visual, performing, and communication arts.
The advisory board has helped build relationships with key constituencies; raised awareness of the school; strengthened relationships with the community; and provided valuable information from the broader community to faculty leaders.
Ellery also appeared on New paint Florida Art Education Association Quarterly 2006. A student, David Bennett, represented New World School of the Arts at that event. Ellery resigned as principal of the school on September 11, 2006. According to Miamidade.gov, Yonel Martiz Cardenas was nominated to continue the remaining term.
