Ashley Gay’s Relationship With Her Mother

Ashley Gay is Heather’s oldest daughter, a graduate of Skyline High and attending her “dream school” — the University of California, Santa Barbara. The shy girl who “never left the bubble of Salt Lake City” is finally stepping out into the big world, and Heather is thrilled, “It feels like a well-paid job as a parent. I can’t wait for her to see all the options.”

Additionally, Heather was impressed by Ashley’s “belief” that she would never return to the “Mormon church” after she finished college.

Heather shared that she wanted Ashley to “go wild and try everything and experience everything.” In her family, BYU was the only option. This is also why Heather encouraged Ashley to “go away to school and experience all the adventures. (She never did.)”

If you didn’t know, Heather raised her three daughters to be “warrior Mormons—beautiful, blonde, virginal Mormons.” After her divorce in 2015, she promised herself she would be the perfect Mormon mom. But around 2018, her daughters started asking her tough questions that she couldn’t answer. And that’s when Heather “forced herself to be honest.”

However, Ashley’s sister, Georgia, and Annabelle decided to return to the church. “I want to go back now, but I feel like it’s too late,” Annabelle hesitated.

The last time we saw Heather, she was trying to be more open with her daughter about sex. On a ski trip with Meredith, Heather confessed that because she’s been a Mormon for so long, premarital sex isn’t even a possibility or a concern.

But things have changed now, with Heather admitting she would be “horrified” if Ashley were to consider having sex before marriage. “And now I’m horrified at the thought of her not having sex before marriage,” Heather added.

Ashley Gay is the child of Billy and Heather Gay, whose marriage ended after 11 years in 2015. After the divorce, Heather had full custody of the children, while Billy “fully” supported them financially. “We co-parented: I worked and he paid the bills,” Ashley explained.
