Meet Stephanie Toback, Wife of James Toback
Stephanie Toback is James Toback’s second wife. It’s unclear exactly when the two started dating or got married, but we do know that it was sometime after 1969.
James had previously been married to Consuelo Sarah Churchill Vanderbilt Russell, daughter of Lady Sarah Spencer Churchill and a second cousin of Winston Churchill. They were married for only one year.
Now, back in the present (2022), Stephanie’s husband James is accused of using his position in the industry to groom and sexually abuse more than three dozen women over the past four decades. According to the lawsuit filed in New York state court, James used a repeated pattern to target hundreds of victims.
“Defendant Toback targeted young women with the same tactics over and over again with hundreds of victims, often using the same lines, facilitators, and locations to commit abuse against unsuspecting young women, including Plaintiff, for decades,” the indictment reads.
Bradley Beckworth, the women’s lawyer, hopes that as people learn more about the case, they will “realize they are not alone.” He added, “When they are abused like this, it can feel very isolating, depressing and frightening.”
The lawsuit also claims that part of James’ routine included prowling the streets of Manhattan to approach “unsuspecting young women.” He allegedly used his membership in the Harvard Club of New York City to lure these women, treat them to meals and drinks, and assault them in the club’s “dining rooms, stairwells, bathrooms, and hotel rooms.”
So the lawsuit is indeed accusing the club of “gross negligence and other violations of the law.”
As for James, he denied the allegations at the time. He previously told Rolling Stone that anyone accusing him of sexual harassment was “a liar, a slut, or both.”
