SEOUL: A travel ban was imposed on Ramsey Khalid Ismael, better known by his online pen name Johnny Somali, on Tuesday after he was indicted by South Korean prosecutors for “causing a disturbance” ”.
Somali was reported to the police on October 17 for causing a disturbance at a convenience store. He allegedly confronted a convenience store employee, making sexist comments after he was told not to drink alcohol in the store.
A spokesperson for the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office said Ismael “was indicted on Monday without detention for causing a disturbance at a convenience store in October.” This streamer and YouTuber has been banned from traveling and therefore cannot leave Korea. He is facing ten years in prison.

Before being accused of harassing convenience store workers, Somali was heavily criticized online for skiing off a North Korean wartime memorial statue honoring victims of wartime sexual slavery . Ismael later apologized, saying “I want to apologize to the Korean people. I don’t understand the meaning of the statue.”

Johnny Somali is an American live streamer who travels around the world performing serious stunts and making racist comments towards locals. He had previously been to Japan, where he provided commentary on the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to locals. In another case, he made comments about the Fukushima nuclear accident while trespassing on a hotel construction site in Osaka. After these circumstances, Ismael was arrested and deported.
Somali admitted his actions were harmful and stated that he felt no remorse. “Why are you racist towards other people in other countries? For money, for power,” Somali explained, adding, “I’ve said it many times, I don’t care, I have no morals.”
