Meet Emily Nowell, Josh Nowell’s wife back home
Emily Nowell and Josh Nowell first met on a blind date after graduating from their respective colleges around 2005. The couple then dated for a few years and eventually got married in October 2010.
Their wedding was reportedly held in a grand Southern style at Emily’s grandparents’ house. There was a fiddle and guitar playing traditional Irish tunes, Spanish moss hanging from a giant live oak tree, a pure pink 1957 Packard carrying Emily down the aisle, and lots of sweets at the reception.
After becoming Mr. and Mrs. Nowell, the couple spent the first years of their married life on the road as traveling laborers until they realized that lifestyle wasn’t practical for raising children. So the couple returned to Mississippi, restored their historic home for their growing family, and settled down.
As for children, Emily and Josh had four. The oldest was named Sam, followed by Teddy (who joined his brother 15 months later), and the youngest was Nora.
Josh didn’t want to talk about his third child/only daughter. “I intentionally left out my three-year-old daughter,” he said at the time.
But Josh has shared that everything he does is aimed at creating a lasting legacy for his four children, not for fame, acclaim or notoriety.
Ironically, Josh’s woodworking business is hampered by the time he spends raising four children. He admits, “None of us can be in the woodworking shop as much as we’d like.” Still, Josh manages to find time to get into the woodworking shop for fun. Let’s give this guy credit for his time management skills.

Emily Nowell Returns Home
Emily Nowell, her husband Josh, Mallorie and Jim Rasberry, and Ben and Erin Napier were the only people to live in Laurel, MS. The group then decided to revitalize the town, and the Home Town program was born.
And to say they’ve revitalized downtown isn’t an exaggeration, as that once-empty town is now home to a number of small businesses that are attracting a younger crowd to the area. To name a few, the businesses that are thriving there are — Knight Butcher, Sweet Something, J. Parker Reclaimed, and Adam Trest Home.
According to IMDb, Emily has been mentioned in the credits of Home Town in at least eight episodes since the show premiered in 2017.
Emily Nowell’s work
Emily Nowell is a member of the Lauren Mercantile family. She joined the downtown development team in 2016 and used her combined expertise in history, design, historic preservation, institutional management, finance and accounting to reopen Laurel’s lost hometown store.
Well, if you didn’t know, Laurel Mercantile Co. first opened its doors in 1901.

As of 2022, Emily still works alongside her husband as a member of the Lauren Mercantile family.
Speaking of her education, Emily attended the University of Mississippi, the same school as Josh. But we don’t know if they were in the same department or class.

The only thing they have in common is that Josh graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi in 2005. He then spent the next 10 years of his life working independently for companies such as Suncoast, Angelle & Donohue, Novus Exploration, and Southeast Land Services until he founded Landserve.com in 2015. That same year, Josh also became the founder and advisor of Petrolia Land Company.
But now, Josh is a carpenter working with his old friend Ben on HGTV’s Hometown. He recalls that the key to mastering his craft was “patience.”
