Meet Makita Bond Byrd, wife of Petri Hawkins-Byrd

Makita Bond Byrd and Petri Hawkins-Byrd started out as best friends. They both had a great sense of humor, laughing and joking around like any other best friend. Soon their friendship turned into love and they got married on March 29, 2019.

While the couple didn’t share how they first met, we’re guessing it might have been their careers that brought them together.

On their first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife, Byrd posted a collage of their photos on his IG with the caption, “Don’t believe in Valentine’s Day, but I believe in YOU and ME, baby. Because of you, every day is Christmas and every night is New Year’s Eve!”

As seen on their IG, Makita and Petri love to travel. Especially after Makita’s battle with cancer, the two are often seen enjoying nature and healing themselves.

Petri calls Makita his “soul mate.”

However, she was not his first. Petri had previously been in a long-term relationship and had a child named Dominique Byrd. His son is a VSU alumnus and an aspiring musician.

Makita Bond Byrd Illness, Brain Surgery

Makita Bond Byrd was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required surgery in April 2021. Thankfully, the surgery (performed by Dr. Black) was a huge success and they were able to remove 95% of Makita’s tumor.

According to Petri, his wife made brain surgery “fun”. Despite the fear and pain, she always smiled brightly like the sun.

From Makita’s perspective, she has received proof that Petri will always support her and will never let her down. She said, “I am still so grateful to him (her husband) for his strength, integrity, guidance, and most importantly, his relationship with God. He continues to inspire me and inspire others.”

Additionally, Makita commented that Petri kept his wedding vows “for better or worse.”

Makita Bond worked as a production assistant on Judge Judy from 2013 until its final season in 2020. However, Judy Sheindlin has moved on to a new project called Judy Justice in 2021 and her main cast has yet to be announced.
