Voice D Smooth star, whose real name is David Mitchell, revealed on Facebook that he is in a relationship. Based on our research, his girlfriend’s name is N’Dia Givens. They were friends for a very long time before they started dating.

Growing up in the tight-knit rural community of Mulga, just north of Birmingham, D Smooth started singing in the church choir, like many Southerners. “It was one way in, one way out, with two churches in the neighborhood,” D Smooth says. D Smooth played in a jazz band as a kid. But he pushed himself as a multi-sport student-athlete throughout high school and college.

D came to Montgomery in 2016 while attending Faulkner University. “I don’t have family here, but we have connections in Montgomery,” D Smooth said. “My mom went to Alabama State University, and I have a lot of relatives who went to Alabama State University.”

He started performing in musicals when he was 18. He admits it wasn’t an entirely “smooth” process for him. After a year and a half at Faulkner, D. Smooth returned to Birmingham for a while to work. But Montgomery called him home in 2019.

D Smooth almost found himself in the national spotlight in 2021. He was selected to participate in the blind auditions for “The Voice” that season. “Honestly, it was my first time ever getting on a plane, let alone coming to California,” he says. “I’m grateful to have experienced everything that comes with it. I was on the last day to go, and the teams were filled before it was my turn, so I didn’t get to audition.”

“Music has been my wife ever since,” D Smooth said. “At first, it was like my girlfriend, or like my companion. But it became my wife, and I treat her like one now.”

D Smooth is one of four players participating in the playoffs starting on May 1.
