Early life and education
Sam Bankman-Fried, the controversial cryptocurrency king, was born on March 6, 1992, in California. He studied Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough and grew up in a family of high school students.
He also attended Canada/USA Mathcamp, a summer program for gifted math students. In 2014, Sam completed a physics and mathematics program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Sam Bankman-Fried was raised by his parents, Barbara Fried and Joseph Bankman, with his brother Gabriel Bankman-Fried also part of their family. In 2017, after leaving his position at Jane Street, Sam Bankman-Fried decided to get into cryptocurrency.
