Meet Alina Dawood, daughter of Shahzada Dawood

The late British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood was a father of two. The family of four included his wife and two children, Suleman and Alina Dawood. Sadly, Shahzada and Suleman were two of the five people who went missing on the Titanic. Passengers paid OceanGate up to $250,000 to see the remains.

Titan set sail from St. John’s, off the coast of Newfoundland, on June 16, 2023. The submarine was scheduled to travel 370 miles from its port to the Atlantic Ocean, where the Titanic is believed to be sinking at a depth of 12,500 feet. Billionaire explorer Hamish Harding informed his friend and former NASA astronaut Colonel Terry Virts of the bad weather in a text message the day before launch.

According to Hamish’s post, the Titan’s crew planned to begin dropping the Titan into the disaster area at 4 a.m. ET on Sunday. However, the Coast Guard eventually discovered that the two-hour dive actually began around 8 a.m. At around 9:45 a.m., the submarine lost contact with the Polar Prince, according to the Coast Guard.

A submersible, unlike a submarine, needs a mothership to launch and surface. The Titan lost contact, effectively lost, with no means of determining its own location.

Family and friends have sent their prayers to the departed souls and grieving family members including Alina. Some reports suggest that Alina revealed about her brother’s death that Suleman did not want to go on the submarine but did so to make their father happy on Father’s Day.

Her brother, Suleman, is just 19. Suleman (Sulaiman) has just completed his first year of university business school at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He has reportedly just received a degree from ACS Cobham International College in Surrey.

The university’s principal and vice-chancellor, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, wrote to students to inform them that Suleman had been on the missing submarine. In the letter, Professor McDonald said: “It is with a heavy heart that I write to you to share the news that one of our students, Suleman Dawood, was a passenger on a submarine that went missing in the North Atlantic. I know you will join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.”

Who is Alina Dawood’s mother?

Alina Dawood’s mother’s name is Christine Dawood. Christine was born in Germany in June 1975 (age 48) and is a graduate of Harvard University. She has built a career as an “Organizational Psychologist, Executive Coach and Change Agent” with 20 years of professional experience. She has worked in a variety of fields including retail, textiles, engineering, agriculture, consulting, mental health, training and development, and change management.

Christine is the Founder and CEO of Next Step Now Ltd since 2018. She also served as a Board Member of The Dawood Foundation. She has also worked at companies such as Karstadt, Raumausstattung Neuman and founded and ran Imhotep Organics Pte Ltd from 2004 to 2010.

Christine studied at FOS/BOS Rosenheim (Mechanical Engineering), Reutlingen University (Textile Science, Engineering and Management), HEC Paris (MSc in Counselling and Coaching), Kingston University (MSc in Occupational and Business Psychology) and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (MSc in Counselling and Coaching for Change).

The Dawood family shared a statement with the Independent, saying: “To date, we have lost contact with their submarine and the information available is very limited. We are grateful for the concern of colleagues and friends and would like to ask everyone to pray for their safety while ensuring the family’s privacy at this time. The family are well cared for and are praying to Allah for the safe return of their family members.”

In a new statement seen by the BBC, the family described Mr Dawood as “a loving father”.

“Shahzada was a loving father to Suleman and Alina, husband to Christine, brother to three siblings and son to Hussain & Kulsum Dawood. Shahzada actively supported a culture of learning, sustainability and diversity as Vice Chairman of Engro Group Pakistan. With a passion for social impact, he worked extensively with the Engro Foundation, Dawood Foundation, SETI Institute and Prince’s Trust International,” the statement said.
