Wife of Sheriff Reginald B Scandrett
Sheriff Reginald B Scandrett is married to his childhood sweetheart Deidree Bradley. They tied the knot on June 8, 1991. So in 2022, they will have been married for 31 years. On their 31st anniversary, Deidree wished her husband, “31 years and counting. Happy anniversary. Let’s see what the next half of life brings.”
The couple met more than 40 years ago while they were still in school.
Music drove Reginald forward. When he started at Fredrick Douglass High School, the school band was considered one of the best in the state. No eighth graders were invited to join the band until Reginald arrived. Although he played the cymbals rather lightly, he caught the eye of a young woman named Deidree, who played the flute, and was destined to become his wife.
Deidree shared her first impression of her husband: “Seeing him made me feel very excited.”
Exaggerations were used to begin their relationship. Reginald claimed to be a year older than he actually was. However, during band bus rides, they began chatting. Deidree recalled one such trip, where she wore old sweatpants, pink hair curlers, and Noxzema all over her face.
His interest in her was not diminished by her appearance. They had been close friends for only two years after their first meeting. They had just gotten off the bus when Reginald asked, “What are we doing?” while they were waiting for the bus.
When Reginald was elected sheriff of Henry County, after a full career in DeKalb County before retiring in June 2019, his wife helped run the entire successful campaign.
“We ran like we were running for governor,” Reginald said. “My wife ran the entire campaign. She has a degree in mass communications from Clark. She has a gift for rallying people to succeed. She’s brilliant. I can’t thank her enough.”
Deidree works as the Human Relations Director for DeKalb County Public Works. Her Facebook page states that she is a Payroll Supervisor at DeKalb County Government. After graduating from high school, she and her husband both attended Clark Atlanta University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Management.
“I followed her there and then needed to pay some bills,” the Sheriff said.
The couple also has four children together; Christian Scandrett, 30, has a master’s degree in business administration and is pursuing a master’s degree in hospitality management at Georgia State University. Regine Scandrett, 28, graduated from Clayton State University with a degree in psychology. Johnathon, 25, graduated from Florida International University, where he played football and earned a double major in sports management and English. Deidrick Scandrett, 20, is a senior at Stockbridge High School.
They are also grandparents to a granddaughter.

He told South Atlanta Journal that he was angry at his father for abandoning the family and angry that his mother was forced to raise four children on her own. Angry that he never had enough food to eat. Angry that he had to wear the same clothes for weeks at a time. Angry that he lived in a poor neighborhood.
He said Henry Herald that his mother often reminded him of her struggle during childbirth because those were the days before epidurals and he weighed 10 pounds when he was born.
“My father passed away about six years ago, but my parents divorced probably 40 years before he passed away,” Reginald revealed. “My mother raised four of us on her own in a difficult economic environment and in a challenging area, Bankhead Highway. She did the best she could.”
