Born in Guyana to a Guyanese father and an English mother, Gold Rosheuvel moved to England when she was five years old. Growing up, Gold was very good at sports. However, a serious injury ruled out Golda’s ability to pursue sports as a career.

In April 2022, Golda spoke with host Marc Malkin on the Just for Variety podcast about an early career experience that left her confused.
The Bridgerton star shared that early in her career, she was asked by a lesbian director to keep her sexuality a secret. “We talked about coming out and pride and representation and whether I should say I was gay in interviews. And it was an absolute no: ‘You absolutely should not do that. It could or will ruin your career as an actress,’” Golda recalled on the podcast.
Although Golda Rosheuvel is now out and proud, she said she found the incident quite strange and funny, especially because she really admires the director.
In the same podcast, Golda also admired her partner Shireen and shared what she always tells her. “The reality is you’re on the screen. The simple fact is that you’re in ‘Bridgerton’ as a black, biracial, cisgender, lesbian person, playing England’s first black queen. The fact that you were there was wonderful,” the 53-year-old actress shared.
