Will Ferrell once pranked Diddy when the rapper appeared on the show Saturday night liveand it didn’t go well.
Ana Gasteyer, a cast member on the show from 1996 to 2002, appeared on the November 20 episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcasts. During her time there, she recalled how the joke happened during a 1998 sketch episode.
Gasteyer said that at the time the show aired, Diddy was the musical guest and had huge demands like having a self-contained set. For Thursday’s review before Saturday’s performance, in which Diddy rehearsed his song “Come With Me” featuring Jimmy Page, Ferrell imitated a group member named Ron.
The actor was encouraged by the show’s writers to interrupt Diddy’s rehearsal. Gasteyer recalled that Ferrell “came down the stairs and he walked right in.”
“I have video from the control room where Sean Combs raps… [and] behind him, Ron was kind of walking around looking really disoriented,” she said.
“It was the best thing that ever happened because what a person deserved to have Ron interrupt their ‘Kashmir’ moment. And he [Diddy] really didn’t roll with it. He was very upset. But it also feels like a sham of all that fake importance. Like what is going to happen?” Gasteyer added.
Ferrell previously discussed the moment he interrupted Diddy during the 2020 special called SNL series Stories from the showwhich includes him crashing into Combs’ rehearsal.
“I didn’t really know what to do when I got up there,” Ferrell said.
Meanwhile, Diddy is currently facing more than two dozen lawsuits, is also facing criminal charges and has been held in a federal prison in Brooklyn since his arrest on September 16.
He was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation of prostitutes, and has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His follow-up date is set for May 5, 2025.
