William Pullman’s father was James Pullman, a doctor, and his mother was Joanna Pullman, a nurse. He also had a brother named Jay Pullman.

When he was about 21, he suffered a head injury during a rehearsal, which caused him to lose his sense of smell and feeling in his left elbow.

After graduating from Hornell High School in 1971, he attended SUNY Delhi and later transferred to SUNY Oneonta in the 1970s.

Eventually, William Pullman earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He was also a teaching assistant at the School of Film and Photography at Montana State University, Bozeman; it was at this time that his students encouraged him to try acting as a career.

William Pullman spent much of his career in the 1980s working with theater companies in New York and Los Angeles. He made his first official film appearance in Ruthless, starring Danny DeVito and Bette Midler.

He also played his first leading role in the movie Spaceballs which was filmed in 1987. His other important movies include Snakes and Rainbow which starred Zack Mokay.
