William Shakespeare was born into the family of John Shakespeare and Mary Shakespeare. His father, John Shakespeare, was a city councillor and glove maker. His mother, Mary Arden, was the daughter of a wealthy landowner family. John Shakespeare was originally from Snitfield, Warwickshire, England.

William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway when he was 18 years old. Anne Hathaway was 26 years old when they got married. On November 27, 1582, the Worcester Parish issued a marriage license to the couple. Six months after the marriage, Anne Hathaway gave birth to their first daughter, Susanna Hall. Susanna Hall was baptized on May 26, 1583.
