Willie Lee Wilson was born on June 16, 1948. He grew up on a sharecropping farm in Louisiana. Wilson received a seventh-grade education. Wilson went on to earn his Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Mt. Carmel Theological Seminary.
