early life
Yaw Tog is a West African from Ghana. He was born in Kumasi on May 8, 2003. He was born into a middle-class family, which made him experience some challenges in life, but also made him see life from a different perspective.
He grew up in one of the busiest neighborhoods in Kumasi along with his parents and siblings. This influenced his musical style and he started rapping in his teenage years. During weekends and holidays, Yaw Tog would hang out with some of his friends and show off his freestyle rapping abilities. He also started writing rap songs and rapping in front of his family and friends.

After months of honing his craft as a rapper, Yaw Tog decided to specialize in Drill Rap, a form of Trap music. In 2018, he began to take music seriously. He recorded the single “Sore” in a studio near his home with his friends O’Kenneth, Reggie, City Boy, and Jay Bahd. The song was released on the music industry on September 3, 2020. Sore is a Ghanaian word that means “rise” in English.
To Yaw Tog’s surprise, the song gained traction in just a few days and quickly went viral as many people around the world loved the song. This immediately put Yaw Tog in the spotlight and many Ghanaian and international artistes began seeking to collaborate with him. The song’s instant success led Yaw Tog and his friends to shoot a music video as soon as possible. The piece was released on September 18, 2020.
Sore has been topping the Ghanaian Apple Music Chart, Boomplay, Spotify and other leading music streaming platforms for weeks. Sore’s music video has been viewed over 2.2 million times on YouTube.
To celebrate his success, he decided to remix the song. This time, he teamed up with top British rapper Stormzy and Ghanaian trap musician Kwesi Arthur. Although Stormzy is British, his mother is Ghanaian. This explains why he was more than willing to work with Yaw Tog on this project.
The remix of the song was released on March 4. As predicted by music critics, the song was warmly received by music fans as the three rappers lived up to the expectations and performed well. Millions of people streamed and downloaded the song. Within a week, the music video of Sore’s remix has been viewed 1.6 million times on YouTube, and this number is expected to increase significantly.
