Yemi Alade was born into a multi-tribal family in Nigeria; she was raised by her parents, James Alade (father) and Helen Uzoma (mother).
Her father, James Alade, a native of Odo State and a former Commissioner of Police, and her mother, Helen Uzoma, a native of Abia State – are both Nigerian, Yoruba and Igbo. Yemi Alade confirmed that she learnt two languages from her parents.

Her debut album, King of Queens, was released on October 2, 2014. The album features collaborations with many famous music artists and producers such as Young D, Selebobo, Mr Chidoo, Philikeyz, Fliptyce, Beat Nation, and more.

Almost two years after the release of her first album, Yemi Alade announced the release of another album titled “Mama Africa” which was released on March 25, 2016. The song focuses on the vulnerability and strength of African women.
The album is a blend of high society, Afropop, R&B, hip-hop and pop. Yemi Alade said recording the album was difficult because she had to travel to different countries every day. She also said that the purpose of recording the album was to “record the whole of Africa on one CD.”
Yemi Alade revealed to Fader magazine that she collaborated with artists from West Africa, East Africa and South Africa. She invited GospelOnDeBeatz, Selebobo, DJ Coublon, Philkeyz, BeatsByEmzo, Rotimi Keys, Masterkraft and Mr. Chidoo to produce the album.
Mama Africa welcomed guests from Sarkodie, P-Square, Sauti Sol, Dj Arafat, Rotimi Keys, Flavour N’abania and Selebobo.
Yemi Alade’s third studio album, Black Magic, was released on December 15, 2017. The album is a follow-up to her 2017 EP Mama Africa, and also features guest appearances from Falz and Olamide.

Prior to the release of her third album, she participated in Shell’s Make The Future event in Nigeria. Yemi Eberechi Alade became the first person of her kind in Africa to reach 1 million YouTube subscribers.
On August 30, 2019, her fourth album, Iron Woman, was released. She described the album as “a buffet with all kinds of food and drink.” The song reflects her strong desire to get the same respect as men. She released the album after realizing that she is a superhero.
In recent years, Alade has signed licensing deals with many giant brands such as UMA and UMG, and has received a large number of contracts and ambassadorships from different brands and companies.
