Early life and education
Yemi Solade was born in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria on January 31, 1960. He is of Yoruba ethnicity and a Christian.
His mother is from Oron in Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria while his father is from Egba in Ogun State in western Nigeria.
In his early life in Lagos State, Yemi Solade grew up in Adeniran Ogunsanya along Ogunlana Drive.
Yemi Solade attended St. Aquila Primary School and later attended Birch Freeman Secondary School for his secondary education. After a failed attempt to go abroad to obtain his A’levels, she continued his education at the Oyo State College of Arts and Sciences (OSCAS) while preparing him for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
In addition, he attended the prestigious University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he studied under the renowned professor Wole Soyinka.
After obtaining a degree in Theatre Arts from OAU, he enrolled in Ahmadu Bello University to pursue a Masters in Public Administration. Yemi Solade also holds a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He is also a degree holder in International Relations from OAU
Yemi Solade completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Maiduguri, northern Nigeria, and taught at Ramat Polytechnic.

Yemi Thorade began his acting career at the age of 17, at the arts and culture festival Festac 77 in 1977. As a young Surulere lad, he won the Lagos State Dance Championship for three consecutive years and represented Africa at the World Dance Competition in Spain. He made his stage debut in a 45-minute monologue titled Crazy Young Man, playing the roles of a passenger and a driver.
After completing his studies, Yemi Thorade taught at universities and polytechnics such as Ramat Polytechnic, University of Maiduguri and Kaduna Polytechnic. He later moved to Kaduna to serve as the Assistant Director of the Kaduna Music and Drama Society, an entertainment centre founded by the British Deputy High Commission.
Yemi Thorade later interned at OAU and was appointed the Artistic Director of Professor Ola Rotimi Theatre Company in 1993. He shot the first Yoruba film, Oju Inu (Insight), directed by Wale Adenuga, now the CEO of PEFTI Film Institute. His team was among the first to premiere a film at the Muson Centre, but due to financial problems, the film was not completed.
Yemi Solade has also starred in every Wale Adenuga TV series including Papa Ajasco, Super Story, This Life and Odd World. However, he is most acclaimed for his roles in movies like Widows, Silent Scream and Elevator Baby.

Yemi Solade is married to a beautiful woman, Hannah Marsh Solade, whom he met on the sets of Wale Adenuga’s TV series Super Story. He married Hannah Marsh Solade after divorcing his first wife, a Shohualab lady, for religious reasons.
Yemi Soulade revealed in an interview that her parents intended for him to convert to Islam. He is married to Hannah Marsh Soulade and has two children, a girl and a boy named Lola Soulade and Femi Soulade.
