Early life and education
Yvonne Lim was born on September 28, 1976 in Singapore. She is of Chinese descent and her family all speak Hokkien.
She received her early academic training at St. Teresa’s Convent, the Holy Infant Girls’ School, and obtained her Diploma in Electronics, Computer and Communications Engineering (DECC) from Singapore Polytechnic in 1996.
In an interview with the Singapore Polytechnic Alumni Magazine, Yvonne Lim confessed that she was a “shy girl” who rarely participated in extracurricular activities. She entered the Miss Singapore Polytechnic beauty pageant on the advice of a friend and won the first runner-up.
Before signing with Singapore’s Avenue of Stars, Lin had previously modelled and was a finalist in Go Magazine’s Cover Girl competition in 1997. Although she lost the title, MediaCorp signed her anyway.
