Early Life & Education
Zandile Gumede, a famous figure in South Africa, was born on 12 May 1961 in Amaoti, a small town in Inanda, just north of Durban. Growing up among twelve siblings in the Majola family, she was raised by her parents’ care and support.
Under the guidance of her father, a dedicated police officer, Gumede’s formative years were shaped by the values of discipline and integrity. Although the media still does not know her parents’ names, they are affectionately known as Mr. and Mrs. Gumede.

Career
During the 1990s, Zandile Gumede began his political journey by assuming the role of ANC President at the Angola Branch in Amaoti. She then served as PR councilor for two terms before becoming Amaoti. Additionally, she was treasurer of the eThekwini Municipality from 2007 to 2015.
Following the election in 2016, Gumede assumed the position of Executive Mayor of eThekwini. She dedicated herself to enhancing service delivery, promoting economic growth and creating employment opportunities throughout her tenure. Furthermore, she leads various initiatives to empower women and youth in the community.

However, Zandile Gumede’s time as mayor was controversial. In 2018, she faced a legal challenge when she was arrested for alleged fraud and corruption related to a waste management deal worth R320 million. As a result, she was temporarily suspended by the ANC and resigned as mayor in 2019.
