10 Evil Bond Girls Who Wanted To Kill 007

James Bond romanced dozens of Bond Girls in the 25 James Bond movies, but some Bond Girls were villainous henchwomen out to kill 007. Evil Bond Girls are as much a staple of the 007 franchise as vodka martinis, Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, and the many women who were James Bond’s lovers in his various films. In some cases, evil Bond Girls tried to execute James after they slept with him.

Interestingly, two versions of James Bond didn’t face outright homicidal Bond Girls. Timothy Dalton’s two Bond movies, The Living Daylights (1987) and License to Kill (1989), lacked Bond Girls who were dedicated to murdering 007. Daniel Craig’s James Bond movies introduced several Bond Girls, including the iconic Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) in Casino Royale (2006) and the underrated Dr. Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) in Spectre (2015) and No Time To Die (2021), but Craig’s 007 also didn’t battle malevolent Bond Girls out to end his life.

Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan’s James Bonds, however, weren’t so lucky. Here are 10 deadly Bond Girls who tried (and failed) to kill 007.

Miss Taro (Zena Marshall)

Tried To Kill James Bond In Dr. No

Miss Taro in a towel talks to James Bond on the bed in Dr. No.

Sean Connery’s debut as James Bond in Dr. No (1962) also included the first Bond Girl henchwoman who tried to kill 007. Miss Taro was the secretary to a British official in Jamaica who was also secretly an informant in the employ of the villainous SPECTRE agent, Dr. Julius No (Joseph Wiseman). Miss Taro personally set up an attempted assassination attempt on James Bond.

Dr. No also introduced a devious female photographer played by Marguerite LeWars assigned to photograph James Bond.

Miss Taro planned for James Bond to be executed on the road to her home, and she was surprised when 007 turned up after he killed his would-be assassins. After Bond sleeps with Taro, he has her arrested and hauled away while he awaited the next man coming to kill him, Professor Dent (Anthony Dawson). Dr. No’s Miss Taro set the precedent for Bond Girls on the side of evil.

While not a traditional Bond Girl, Colonel Rosa Klebb came very close to killing James Bond in From Russia With Love (1963). A high-ranking KGB counter-intelligence agent, Colonel Klebb recruited From Russia With Love‘s main Bond Girl, Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi), as a honey trap for 007. Unbeknownst to her Soviet masters, Klebb secretly defected to SPECTRE.

Fiona Volpe was the first evil Bond Girl presented as a female version of 007. Introduced in Thunderball (1965), Volpe was a SPECTRE operative who played a key role in the hijacking of two atomic warheads Ernst Stavro Blofeld used to blackmail the United States and the United Kingdom. Of course, Fiona Volpe slept with James Bond before mocking him that his fabled charms don’t work on her. Volpe and her SPECTRE goons hunted Bond through a Junkanoo, with 007 injured from a gunshot would. However, Bond turned the tables on Fiona and killed her, leaving Volpe’s corpse behind with the immortal quip, “Do you mind if my friend sits this out? She’s just dead.”

Helga Brandt (Karin Dor)

Tried To Kill James Bond In You Only Live Twice

Helgra Brandt

You Only Live Twice‘s (1967) Helga Brandt is one of the more forgettable Bond Girls who tried to kill 007. Also known as Number 11, Brandt was a SPECTRE agent assigned as the personal assistant of Japanese industrialist Mr. Osato (Teru Shimada). James Bond posed as Mr. Fisher from Empire Chemicals to investigate Osato, and Helga was assigned to kill 007.

Blofeld fed Helga Brandt to his pet piranhas.

Unsurprisingly, Helgra Brandt’s elaborate death trap for 007 failed. When Mr. Osato and Helga were summoed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Donald Pleasance), the leader of SPECTRE decided to spare Osato’s life, but Brandt wasn’t so lucky. Blofeld fed Helga Brandt to his pet piranhas.

Irma Bunt (Ilse Steppat)

Tried To Kill James Bond In On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Irma Bunt OHMSS

Like Rosa Klebb, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service‘s (1969) Irma Bunt isn’t a Bond Girl in the traditional sense. In fact, Bunt oversaw the Angels of Death, a cadre of unwitting patients of Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Telly Savalas) who were programmed to do the former SPECTRE leader’s bidding. However, no evil Bond Girl hurt James Bond (George Lazenby) the way Irma Bunt did.

Sadly, Ilse Steppat died just days after On Her Majesty’s Secret Service‘s premiere.

After Bond believed he killed Blofeld in the Swiss Alps, 007 married his true love, Tracy Di Vincenzo (Diana Rigg). Stopping off on their drive to their honeymoon, James was targeted by Blofeld and Irma Bunt in a drive-by shooting that killed Tracy. Although 007 would eventually exact revenge on Blofeld, he never got his hands on Irma Bunt.

Bambi (Lola Larson) & Thumper (Trina Parks)

Tried To Kill James Bond In Diamonds Are Forever

Bond is attacked by Bambi and Thumper in Diamonds are Forever.

When Sean Connery returned as James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever (1971), he encountered a first: a pair of acrobatic Bond Girl assassins. Diamonds Are Forever introduced two traditional Bond Girls: diamond fence Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) and Vegas floozy Plenty O’Toole (Lana Wood). Meanwhile, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Charles Gray) had evil Bond Girls Bambi and Thumper in his employ.

Diamonds Are Forever also featured Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover) and Mr. Kidd (Putter Smith as homosexual assassins who tried to kill James Bond.

Bambi and Thumper were assigned to guard Blofeld’s prisoner, Walter Whyte (Jimmy Dean), who was held in a house on the outskirts of Las Vegas. James Bond certainly had his hands full battling the elusive and wily Bambi and Thumper. However, 007 prevailed when he nearly drowned the flexible felons in their swimming pool.

May Day (Grace Jones)

Tried To Kill James Bond In A View To A Kill

May Day picks up a bad guy in A View to a Kill

Grace Jones struck an unforgettable figure as May Day, the personal henchwoman of the villainous Max Zorin (Christopher Walken) in A View To A Kill (1985). May Day first encountered James Bond (Roger Moore) during an assassination in Paris, and she evaded 007 during a wild chase through the City of Lights. However, Bond slept with May Day with at Zorin’s French estate.

Roger Moore’s James Bond encountered Bond Girls like Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Octopussy (Maud Adams), but neither were truly evil.

May Day’s loyalty to Max Zorin was ultimately not reciprocated. During Operation Main Strike, Zorin’s plot to flood Silicon Valley, Max betrayed May Day and left her to die. May Day’s heroic final act was to sacrifice her life to stop Zorin’s bomb from detonating as James Bond and Stacy Sutton (Tanya Roberts) escaped.

Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen)

Tried To Kill James Bond in GoldenEye

Close

Perhaps the most popular evil Bond Girl of all, Famke Janssen is unforgettable as Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye (1995). The deadly Russian operative was the henchwoman and personal assassin of Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean), the leader of Janus and James Bond’s (Pierce Brosnan) former best friend, 006. Onatopp also had a special ability to murder men by crushing him between her powerful thighs.

The daughter of oil tycoon Sir Robert King, Elektra was once kidnapped and held for ransom by Renard. Unbeknownst to her father or MI6, Stockholm syndrome turned Elektra into Renard’s lover, and they had Sir Robert assassinated to take over his oil pipeline to the Caspian sea.

Maria Grazia Cucinotta plays the unnamed female assassin who murders Sir Robert King and is chased by James Bond through the London Thames in The World Is Not Enough‘s pre-credits sequence.

Elektra pretended to accept James Bond’s protection from Renard and became his lover. Elektra orchestrated the kidnapping of M (Judi Dench) as revenge for allowing Renard to kidnap her. After Bond realized Elektra was the true mastermind behind Renard and rescued M, 007 coldly shot and killed Elektra point-blank, quipping, “I never miss.”

Frost joined Graves in his plot to use his solar energy satellite, Icarus, to threaten the world.

Jinx killed Miranda Frost in a pitched battle, stabbing her with a dagger impaled with a copy of “The Art of War.” When James Bond movies return, there will almost certainly be more evil Bond Girls trying to kill 007.
