The Scream franchise made a strong entry into the 2020s with the 2022 reboot starring Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The film has a stacked cast that also features original franchise staples Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette and rising stars Mikey Madison, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, and Kyle Gallner. Any Scream movie is perfect for the Halloween season, but this star-stacked entry (which likely won’t be replicated due to the behind-the-scenes issues with the franchise) is a modern slasher must-see.

As the middle entry of Ti West’s X trilogy, Pearl is arguably the best of the franchise following the divided response from 2024’s MaXXXine. If it wasn’t established already, Pearl really helped to solidify Mia Goth’s status as one of the best modern scream queens and was a triumph for independent horror filmmaking on a budget. Pearl takes place in 1918 and a young woman on the brink of madness pursues a career in entertainment which leads her to a breaking point. The film also stars David Corenswet who plays an alluring film projectionist. The film earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%.
