early life
A$AP Rocky was born on October 3, 1988 in Harlem, New York, USA. His mother, Renee Black, is African American and his father, Adrian Mayers, is Barbadian. He has an older sister named Erika B. Mayers and a younger brother named Ricky Mayers.
He began rapping at the age of nine, often with his older brother, who had a French braided hairstyle, a style Rocky later copied.
A$AP Rocky’s father was arrested for drug trafficking when he was 12 and eventually died in 2012. He lost his older brother, Ricky Mayers, when he was 13, when a rival drug dealer killed him.
This heartbreak motivated A$AP Rocky to work harder on his songs.
