Abraham Isaac Quintanilla III was born on December 13, 1963 in Toppenish, Washington, United States. He is the first child of Abraham Isaac Quintanilla Jr. and Marcella Ofelia Quintanilla (née Samoa) .
His father is an American singer, songwriter and producer. When AB Quintanilla was three months old, the family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, where he and his sisters Selena and Suzette Quintanilla (Suzette Quintanilla) grew up there.
AB Quintanilla III attended Brazoswood High School. He is Mexican-American, the son of a Mexican-American father and a Mexican-Native American mother. The Quintanilla family is Christian.

AB Quintanilla’s musical career began playing bass guitar in his family’s band, Los Dinos, while living in Lake Jackson, Texas. Later he also learned to play the guitar. AB is a member of the successful band Los Dinos, along with his sisters Selena and Suzette and father Abraham.
AB later became Selena’s producer and co-wrote some of her hit songs such as “Como la Flor” and “Amor Prohibido.” Selena was brutally murdered in 1995, which dealt a huge blow to him. He helped produce the song “Como Te Extraño” written by Pedro “Pete” Astudillo for Selena.
In 1999, AB formed the band Kumbia Kings, a fusion of cumbia and pop music. The Cumbia Kings have achieved international success and popularity, especially in South America. AB also produces works for other artists such as Thalía and Cristian Castro.
After leaving Kumbia Kings in 2006, AB formed a new group called Kumbia All Stars with his brother-in-law Chris Pérez and other former Kumbia Kings members. The new group also achieved great success in South America.

AB Quintanilla was married five times. His first marriage was to Evangelina Almeida in 1988, when he was 24 years old. They had two children, Martika and Savani Quintanilla, before separating in the late 1990s and divorcing in 2000.
Quintanilla’s second marriage was to Heather Grein in 2002. They had two children, Abraham Isaac IV and Elijah Jae Quintanilla, before divorcing in 2004. Heather Grein maintains a good relationship with Quintanilla and her family. Quintanilla’s third marriage was to Brenda Lee Ramírez in 2004.
They had two children, Elrey and Justin Quintanilla, but announced their divorce in 2005, shortly after the birth of their second child. However, they reconciled and had another child in 2007 before separating again and eventually divorcing.
