Introduction Abba Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida Gida. He is a politician from Nigeria who will soon take over as governor of Kano State. He was a member of the Kano State executive council from 2011 to 2015.
He was a former commissioner for works, housing and transport in Kano state. He ran for governor in 2019, but was defeated by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current governor of Kano state.
Abba declared himself the rightful winner and filed a lawsuit asking a judge to overturn the election results.

Early life
Malam Kabiru Yusuf and Malama Khadijatul-Naja’atu welcomed Abba on 5 January 1963, in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State. He attended Sumaila Primary School from 1968 to 1975.
Public High School in Dawakin Tofa was his next stop, after which he continued his education at Public High School in Lautai, Gumel, where he graduated in 1980.
Abba Kabir Yusuf received his Higher National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in 1985 and Higher National Diploma (HND) in the same discipline from the Kaduna Polytechnic in 1989.
He then attended Bayero University in Kano and obtained an MBA (Master of Business Administration) and a postgraduate degree in management.
Alhaji Yusuf Bashari, Gida’s grandfather, was a former Gaya and Danmakwayon Kano district chief, and it was under his tutelage that the NNPP governorship candidate began pursuing an Islamic education.
Career
Starting his career at the Kano State Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA), Abba Gida-Gida later moved to the state Ministry of Water Resources where he held various positions.
He served as an assistant to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003 before serving as Special Assistant (Administration).
Abba again teamed up with Kwankwaso from 2003 to 2006 when he served as Minister of Defense.
As Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he served in Darfur/Somalia until 2007.
In addition, Abba was appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua to the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), based in Ondo State, from 2009 to 2011.
Abba was selected as the governor’s first principal private secretary (PPS) during Kwankwaso’s second term, and he was later promoted to state commissioner for transport, housing and labour.
Abba Gida-Gida has been the focus of public attention in the 2019 Kano governorship race between the opposition PDP and the incumbent APC.
Kwankwaso’s chosen candidate ran against incumbent Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in a race that was declared unwinnable, but he lost after a rerun.
Argumentative
In September 2022, it was rumoured that Abba had appealed to the public to donate one thousand naira (1,000 naira) to support his campaign.
In 2020, Abba accused Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje of violating the law and due process in relation to alleged public property transactions.
He asked the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to take immediate action to deal with what he said was Ganduje’s abuse of power and disregard for the law.

With his wife Hajiya Maryam Rabiu Musa Kwankwso, Abba Kabir Yusuf has four children.

According to his statement, no member of Abba Kabir Yusuf’s family will hold the office of governor of Kano state.
