Who are Nyesha Arrington’s parents?

Chef Nyesha has been cooking since she was 5 years old. Her Korean grandmother, Ai-Soon Lee, introduced her to a variety of foods like bulgogi, octopus, and homemade kimchi. These early culinary experiences undoubtedly shaped the development of Nyesha’s palate and her cooking philosophy.

Nyesha was named a Rising Star by then-Angeleno food critic Brad Johnson while she was Executive Chef at Wilshire in Santa Monica from 2011 to 2013. In 2012, Nyesha was recognized by Zagat as one of LA’s 30 Under 30 — LA’s Hottest Up-and-Comers as well as LA’s Top Talent Under 30. A graduate of the prestigious California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, Nyesha’s life took a different turn after she met Josiah Citrin, Chef/Owner of the renowned 2 Michelin-starred Mélisse in Santa Monica. Recognizing Nyesha’s raw talent, Josiah appointed her as the sauce chef at Mélisse. Nyesha would later work with legendary French chef Joël Robuchon at his Michelin-starred and Mobil-awarded Las Vegas restaurants, L’Atelier and The Mansion.

Nyesha comes from a highly artistic family. Her father and sister were both passionate about music, while her mother was a seamstress. Owner of now-closed restaurants Leona and Native, Nyesha also tried sculpture, watercolor, dot-mapping, and photography before turning to cooking.

Nyesha loves her father, John Edward Arrington, very much and her social media accounts are proof of that. On June 27, 2018, she shared a photo of her and John decades ago on Instagram, in which he is carrying Nyesha on his shoulders. In the caption, she wrote, “My dad is my hero, my best friend and I am so grateful for teaching me the ways of the #Jedi. 😜❤️Love forever.”

Taking to Instagram on August 2, 2016, Nyesha revealed that her mother had suffered a stroke in 2008 while she was working at Lemon Moon. And her surprise visit was the first time Nyesha had seen her mother walk all the way to the water in 10 years.
