Biography
Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina is the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force (PRTT).
He was born and raised in his hometown, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria.
The pension fund boss was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2015 and declared wanted at the time.
Last year, he was also tried alongside his son, Faisal Maina, on money laundering charges before being extradited from the Republic of Niger.
This was made possible through the joint efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, INTERPOL NCB, Abuja and Nigerien counterparts.

Early life
Abdulrasheed Maina spent most of his early years in Northern Nigeria.
However, he left to continue his studies in places other than his homeland.

After completing primary and secondary school, pension fund manager Abdulrasheed Maina went on to university and achieved impressive results.
Career
Abdulrasheed Maina was added to the Pension Reform Task Force (PRTT) and served as its chairman from 2010 to 2013.
He was, however, arraigned in 2015 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside former Chief Steve Oronsaye, Osarenkhoe Afe and Fredrick Hamilton before a Federal Court on 24 counts of fraud and obtaining property by false pretenses.
At the time, the pension fund boss was declared a “wanted man” and is believed to have gone into hiding after the Nigerian Senate issued a warrant for his arrest.
Two years later, Abdulrasheed Maina was appointed as the acting director of the Department of Human Resources, which surprised many and raised questions from political critics. He was eventually fired by President Muhammadu Buhari that same year.
With his reputation at stake, Abdulrasheed Maina was reportedly endorsed to run for governor of Borno state in 2019. Months later, Maina and his son Faisal were put on trial for money laundering.
The Nigeria Police Force finally announced the arrest of Abdulrasheed Maina in Niamey, Niger Republic in December 2020; following a joint effort by the Nigeria Police Force, INTERPOL NCB, Abuja and its Nigerien counterpart.
He was extradited from Niamey, Niger Republic to Nigeria to face charges in court.
Personal life
Abdulrasheed Maina is married to Laila Maina and currently has a son, Faisal Maina.
His son was also charged with fraud of about 58 million naira and using accounts that were deemed to be a vehicle for illegal transactions.
