Early life and education
Although Adebayo “Ogabello” Salami is of Kwara descent, he was born in Lagos State on May 9, 1952. He received his primary and secondary education.

After the death of Ojo Ladipo in 1978, Adebayo Salami assumed the leadership of the group and he has since come into the limelight.
Adebayo Salami starred in the first Yoruba movie, Ajani Ogun, in which the late Adeyemi Afolayan (father of Kunle Afolayan and Gabriel Afolayan) played a major role. He also starred in Adeyemi Afolayan’s movie Kadara (Ad Love). He later starred in the popular Nigerian comedy series, Comedy Half Hour, under the stage name Oga Bello.
In 1985, Adebayo ‘Oga Bello’ Salami produced his debut film, Ogun Ajaye, directed by Awada Kerikeri. Since 1985, he has produced, directed and starred in many Yoruba films.
Adebayo Salami is one of the founding members of the Nigeria Association of Theatre Arts Practitioners and serves as its president.
