Aerosmith announced on Friday that they would stop touring because lead singer Steven Tyler suffered permanent vocal damage.
In a post to fans, the band thanked the “Blue Army” for their decades of support, but said Tyler’s vocal cord injury was too severe to continue performing at such a high level.
“Steven’s voice is an instrument unlike any other. He has spent months tirelessly training his voice to return to its pre-injury state,” the post read. “We have watched him struggle despite having the best medical team at his side. Sadly, it is clear that he will never fully recover from his vocal cord injury. We have made the heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
In 1970, a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark has burned bright and strong for more than five decades. Some of you have been with us from the beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history.
