Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto is a Nigerian politician and accountant. He was elected governor of Sokoto State in March 2023.
He is also a member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigerian Corporate Governance Association. He is also a board member of the African Export-Import Bank.
He was formerly the Secretary of Northern Nigeria Cement Company Plc and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Taxation.

Early life
Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto was born on 1 January 1970 in Tudun Wada, Sokoto. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto obtained his Diploma in Office Staff (Accounting and Auditing) in 1991 and Professional Diploma in Public Accounting and Auditing (DPAA) in 1994 from the Faculty of Public Administration of Sokoto Polytechnic.
Ahmed Sokoto graduated from Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata Marafa, Zamfara State, with a National Diploma in Local Government Studies in 1997.
From 2000 to 2004, he obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
Career
Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto was the treasurer of the Jega Local Government Education Authority from 1989 to 1992. In 1993, he was appointed as the internal auditor of the Sokoto State Council. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto served as the Deputy Director of Finance and Supply at Sabon-Birni Local Government from 1996 to 1998 and the Accountant in Charge of Salaries at Wamakko Local Government from 1995 to 1997.
From 2002 to 2007, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto was the Director of Finance and Supply of Kebbe Local Government and the Chief Accountant of the Local Government Service Commission.
He was appointed Honorary Commissioner for Social Welfare and Culture and later Commissioner for Health. Ahmed Aliyu was chosen as Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as his running mate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014. Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Alh. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto were elected Governor and Deputy Governor of Sokoto State in the 2015 general elections.
In 2019, he ran for governor of Sokoto state as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost to the incumbent governor and PDP candidate Aminu Tambuwal.
He ran for governor of Sokoto state in 2023 and won, representing the All Progressives Congress party.
