While the sketch itself is hilarious, the performance of “What Do I Get My Brother-in-Law?” is undoubtedly the lowest-ranked song of the holiday special. It is clear that the song is not supposed to be serious, and therefore, neither is the performance. The lyrics are silly, the techno beat does not match the Christmas vibes, and Carpenter is much better at singing her usual songs than rapping. As a performance, “What Do I Get My Brother-in-Law?” is pretty mediocre, but as a comedy sketch, it is funny.

Similarly to the closing number, “Buy Me Presents” has a simple beginning that slowly spirals into a dazzling choreographic number with elegant costumes to complete the atmosphere. The Old Hollywood theme for the costumes is a surprising choice, but it fits well for the opening number.
