Amaravati will be the new Capital of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu Said

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu today announced that Amaravati will be the capital of Andhra Pradesh. A day before being sworn in as Chief Minister of the state, he announced that Amaravati would be the sole capital of the state. Chandrababu Naidu made this announcement while addressing a joint meeting of TDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janasena MLAs. In this meeting, he was unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Chandrababu Naidu said, ‘There will be no games in the name of the three capitals in our government. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital.’ As the first Chief Minister of divided Andhra Pradesh during 2014-2019, he mooted the idea of making Amaravati the capital. However, his idea faced a setback in 2019 when TDP lost power and YSRCP led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy won a landslide victory.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had scrapped the Amaravati capital plan and proposed a new theory of three capitals, but Naidu now preferred the decision of a single capital instead of this theory. The National Democratic Alliance of TDP, BJP and Janasena recently won a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections held simultaneously in the state. NDA won 164 seats in the National Assembly and 21 seats in the Lok Sabha. This victory brought new life to the Amaravati capital project. This is aimed at developing Amravati to international standards worthy of being the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Previously, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana used to share the same capital, Hyderabad.

TDP became the second largest party in the NDA alliance by winning 16 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. In the Modi 3.0 cabinet, TDP has the post of a Union Minister and the responsibilities of a Foreign Minister. The Party was assigned the responsibility of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. MP Ram Mohan Naidu will take on this responsibility. They certainly wield a significant power in Indian politics and the direct result of this is the new capital of Andhra Pradesh that we see today.
