Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement, according to Jolie’s lawyer, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s longest and most controversial divorces.
The news was first reported by People magazine, and was later confirmed by Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon.
Simon said: “Angelina filed for divorce over eight years ago. “She and her children left behind all of their joint assets and from then on focused on healing their wounds and finding peace. Although this settlement is just one step in a long process, Angelina is relieved to see this part resolved.”
The agreement has not yet been filed with the court and will require a judge’s approval. According to the Associated Press, a request for comment sent to Pitt’s attorney on Monday night was not answered.
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, have been a famous couple in Hollywood for 12 years and have six children together. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing an incident during a flight from Europe, where she accused Brad Pitt of abusing her and the children, which he denied.

The couple was declared legally single in 2019, but issues related to property division and child custody remain unresolved.
A private judge’s initial decision gave the couple equal custody of their children. However, Jolie later objected to the judge’s participation due to conflicts of interest.
The appeals court sided with Jolie, removing the judge and restarting the guardianship process.
Details of the settlement have not been disclosed. The use of private judges, a popular choice among celebrities, has kept much of the proceedings private.
However, separate legal disputes have revealed some information, such as Pitt’s lawsuit accusing Jolie of backing out of an agreement to sell her shares in a French winery to him. It remains unclear how this settlement will impact that case.
