AR Rahman’s daughter shares a message about patience when her parents separate

Daughter of AR Rahman and Saira Banu, Raheema Rahman’s latest Instagram post shows her trying to be patient with her parents’ separation.

In an Instagram story, she posted a video of falling snow and captioned it with a translation of Quranic verses. It is said: “In every difficulty there is ease. Your Lord will give you and you will be satisfied”, for which she wrote “Verses to live by”.

Although she did not explicitly allude to her parents’ separation, this post comes after her previous post in which she asked people to respect the family’s privacy. “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be handled with the utmost privacy and respect,” she said. Thank you for your interest.”

Legendary music artist AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage on Tuesday. The couple, through their lawyer, Vandana Shah, confirmed their separation in a joint statement.

Indian media reported that Saira’s lawyer said that “considerable emotional stress and insurmountable differences” became the cause of the separation.

The statement also said: “Despite their deep love for each other, the couple found that tensions and difficulties had created an insurmountable distance between them, a distance that neither side felt. I feel like I can get through it at this time.”

AR Rahman also wrote about the separation in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “We were hoping to reach our thirtieth goal, but everything seems to have an impossible ending visible. Even God’s throne can shake under the weight of broken hearts. Yet in this brokenness, we search for meaning, even though the fragments may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and respect for our privacy as we navigate this fragile chapter.”
