Ariana Grande admits she and Cynthia Erivo were ‘unbearable’ on ‘Wicked’ press tour

If you think Villains: Part One press tour is so dramatic, don’t worry— Ariana Grande agrees.

During diversity Actors opposite Paul Mescal interviews the Golden Globe-nominated actress talks about the infamous press tour: “[We’re] unbearable, yes. Bad. It’s so bad. Most annoying.”

The commentary mentioned the endless tears that Grande and co-star Cynthia Erivo cried during most of their festival interviews. The actresses displayed a myriad of emotions and held hands, leaving many fans exhausted as the story surrounding the drama had become emotionally heavy. When Mescal continued to tell Grande how it seemed like she and Erivo were “in love,” Grande quickly assured him that she knew about the drama.

Erivo also recently spoke out about their relationship, telling Drew Barrymore while a guest on her talk show that she was “used” to Grande touching her all the time. “If we don’t, like, [physically] connected, I thought, ‘What’s going on? What’s going on? Where are you?'” she said. “We hold hands and walk very often. Like, if we weren’t holding hands, we’d find each other somewhere.

One of the tour’s particularly viral moments, in which a journalist noted that many fans were “reserving their seats” with the lyrics to “Defying Gravity,” happened to be a standout moment that some fans called it ridiculous. Grande later admitted to not fully knowing what was going on at the time.

“I don’t know what any of that means. I don’t understand the first sentence. I don’t understand.” [Cynthia’s] react. I just wanted to be there because I knew something big was happening.”

Aside from acknowledging the overly dramatic tone of the press tour, Grande seemed to bond with Mescal over the joint release date of “Glicked” and their shared love of the stage.

the Gladiator II The actor also shared that he was jealous of Grande’s ability to easily perform comedy in the film. “That’s a really difficult thing to do. You do it very well in [‘Wicked’]. I think you’re absolutely brilliant in the film. Besides, what can’t you do?”
