Ayanda Dlodlo (born 22 May 1963 in Soweto) is a civil servant who is loved by many South Africans.
She became one of the flag bearers of the African National Congress.
She has served as a cabinet minister. She currently serves as Minister of State and Security in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet.
She has served as Minister of Public Services and Administration, Minister of Home Affairs, and Minister of Communications.

Early life
Ayanda Dlodlo was born on May 22, 1963. She was born in Soweto, Johannesburg in South Africa.
Her family was greatly affected by the Apartheid regime in South Africa. Her family fled to Swaziland during the Apartheid era, unfortunately, after the migration, her parents’ marriage became strained and broke up after a year.
Her mother left and returned to South Africa, Johannesburg to be exact.
Upon returning to South Africa in 1994, she found her mother in custody with signs of torture and received news that her sister had died at the hands of South African security forces.
Education
Ayandla Dlodlo attended primary school through university in several different countries as her family migrated due to the hardships of Apartheid in South Africa.
She has military training. She had military training in Angola and the Soviet Union. She studied Maritime and Shipping Management in the UK. She also studied Management Development and Business Management.
Career
Ayanda Dlodlo joined the Military Organization of the African National Congress at the age of seventeen. She went to Angola in 1980 to undergo military training.
When she returned to South Africa, she was recruited by Portnet. She worked at the South African National Ports Authority and the South African Rail Transport Company.
Thanks to her military training, she headed the Department of Safety and Security in South Africa’s Gauteng Province. She was head of the now-defunct Special Operations Division, also known as Scorpions.
She publicly supported Jacob Zuma and became a member of the African National Congress (ANC). She was appointed in 2010 to serve as Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration in Jacob Zuma’s administration.
In 2012, she took over as director of VIP Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. and had to resign as deputy minister but was recalled in 2014 and served until 2017.
She served as Minister of Communications of South Africa from March 2017 to October 2017 after which she was appointed Minister of Home Affairs. In 2018, Malusi Gigaba resigned as Minister of Public Service and Administration and she was appointed to replace him.
She is currently the Minister of National Security of South Africa.
Personal life
Ayanda Dlodlo met Theophilus Dlodlo in 1983 while they were in government custody.
They were deported and moved to Lusaka in Zambia. They married in Swaziland and had a son, Thabang Mnisi. Her husband died in 1987.
